PokerShare.com offers to put name on town
September 28 Pokershare.com, a well-known online poker site offered $100,000 to have its name stamped on a small town. Officials at PokerShare.com are offering to pay if the tiny western Kentucky town of Sharer - which has no city council, no grocery and no post office - changes its name to PokerShare.com. The media attention grabbing story has Butler County Judge-Executive Hugh Evans wondering, but he says he is not enthusiastic on the idea. While he admits that he cannot speak for everyone involved, but for himself, he says no way. He believes the US is still to conservative for these types of things. The speck of a town - Sharer was selected because of the similarity of its name to PokerShare.com says a public relations and spokesperson for the online poker casino. The town was found on MapQuest when the online poker company did a random search for similar names to city for possible targeting. Located Northwest of Bowling Green, Sharer was established in 1900. It was said to be named for Postmaster Moses J. Sharer or his family. The post office closed in the early 1980s. Whatever the case, we are amused online poker players today.
