Online gambling connoisseurs believe online backgammon will be the next online poker. They say that in most locations of the World, online backgammon is gaining more and more popularity.  Playing online poker games is the pretty much everyone's favorite past-time on the Internet, whether playing for real money or not. These days, some online gambling companies might also be looking to backgammon for the next big-time past-time on the Net.

A representative for the sponsoring company (TrueMoneygames) of the Backgammon World Championships, held in Monte Carlo a few weeks ago, feels that the game of Backgammon is now a popular substitute for online poker.

The representative for TrueMoneygames also stated that more than half a million people from all over the planet currently play backgammon online.

Last Monday, a guy by the name of Dennis Carlston won the 2005 Backgammon World Championships taking home over $100,000 (US). Total prize money for the tournament amounted to more than $320,000 (US). Next year, it is expected that the event will see record prize money amounts - obviously because of the new demand for the game. Carlston is from the United States.

While we are not totally convinced that online backgammon will overtake the very popular online poker games, we will definitely be keeping an eye on this topic. After all, backgammon has been played online for the past twelve years. Why shouldn't it get a chance to shine. People might win huge amounts of money playing this game.
