Hachem wins World Series of Poker

July 18

As online poker players from all over waited and waited for the news as to who won this year's WSOP, the players were playing a 14 hour round. This final round was not your average poker game either. Mostly a  cautious event, it did have it's share of drama and excitement, too. Joseph Hachem came on top just before 7AM, winning the 36th WSOP and $7.5 million.

After he won the last hand played with Steven Dannenmann, the piles of money were stacked high on the table. This was the biggest payday any winner has received in this event. Actually, this year's WSOP had many firsts. More online poker players entered the event than ever before and more people showed interest in the event than ever before. Many online poker players are already looking forward to next year.

The final round of the 2005 WSOP began Friday afternoon with the 9 players sitting at the poker game table. After nearly 14 hours, the last two players played the final hand (number 232 to be exact). This was the first WSOP for both Hachem and Dannenmann.

Here are the final results from the last 9 players in the event:

9. Mike "The Mouth" Matusow won $1,000,000

8. Brad Kondracki won $1.15 million

7. Daniel Bergsdorf won $1,300,000

6. Scott Lazar won $1,500,000
