Poker tourney busted in Texas

August 12

Here is one real good reason why it is not recommended that online poker players play poker in the back of a poker supply company - for real money.

Tuesday night n Brownsville, the BNB Poker Supply company found itself being raided by police during a poker tournament held in the building. While it is perfectly legal to play poker wherever and when ever - as long as no money is at stake, allegedly BNB was making money.

Apparently, the very popular poker joint was charging poker players a fee of five dollars an hour to play in games where cash prizes were awarded. Players were not necessarily wagering on each hand, they would simply qualify for the prizes by having the best hands or winning the tourney.

This was the very first time any raid on gambling was commenced in the city of Brownsville. 6 People were taken into custody and eleven others were cited with tickets. The business has only been open around a month, and it is alleged that the owners or operators of the tourneys were raking-in somewhere between 5-10 grand a night. Apparently an undercover investigation was underway for most of the time the poker supply company was in business.

With so many other terrible things regarding crime going-on, you have to wonder if the right battles are being fought these days.
